Project Intern (Oct 2020 - Jan 2021)

As a project intern at Cummins India, I worked on the quality control aspect of the valve lash procedure on Diesel Engines. I also monitored the process of reduction in the cycle time at the valve lash station.

  • Studied and implemented the concepts of Lean Manufacturing, such as 5S, Gemba, and Kaizen, to reduce the cycle time of the Valve Lash Setting Station by 23 secs per engine unit using the Standardized Work Combination Table (SWCT).

  • Performed modifications in the PLC logic to improve the efficiency and lead time for material handling in the Valve Lash Setting Sub-Assembly Line, considering operators' safety.

  • Analyzed the data variation in the trend of valve lash values for each valve of the 4 and 6-cylinder BS-VI and EURO III compliant engines using Microsoft Excel and MATLAB.

  • Calibrated the Valve Lash Machines in 3 stages based on the collected data, using Atlas Copco ToolsNet software to achieve even and accurate valve lash values resulting in 95% cumulative improvement in the Valve Lash Setting operation.

  • Designed new feeler gauges for manual checking of the valve lashes under the supervision of the Deputy Plant Manager.

  • Performed Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) of the calibrated Valve Lash Setting Process and Valve Lash components of the new BSVI engines.

Research Engineer (Aug 2021 - Jul 2022)
  • Built an automated 2-D modeling tool for the Compound Die Design leveraging AutoCAD and Python programming language. Designed the algorithm using PyAutoCAD library, achieving a reduction in the design drafting time of the Compound Die by 99%.

  • Analyzed the cooling characteristics of micro-cooling holes in a gas turbine blade with the CFD tool, ANSYS Fluent. Performed key design modifications, causing an increase in the heat transfer coefficient by 85%. Determined the flow characteristics of cooling holes with heat transfer equations.

  • Executed a high stake project titled "Design and Analysis of Fin Geometry and Fin Arrangement of the Heat Sink for Thermal Management of an Electronic Sub-system," in which I formulated various heat sink iterations by providing various perforations of different shapes and conducted CFD analysis by leveraging ANSYS Fluent. Analyzed and compared the heat sink designs based on criteria like heat dissipation characteristics, Nusselt number and Heat Transfer Coefficient, leading to 90% better heat dissipation characteristics as compared to the basic heat sink design.
